Prior to engaging in this discussion, please read Chapters 5 and 6 from the Applied metacognition e-book, review Elaboration Theory, Social Learning Theory, and Self-Determination Theory online, read “The Impact of the Self-Determined Learning Model of Instruction on Student Self-Determination” article, view the Emotional Intelligence and Bloom’s Taxonomy videos, and review any relevant Instructor Guidance. Respond to at least two of your classmates by Day 5 (Saturday). Comment on at least one of your classmates’ responses to your initial post by Day 7 of the week. Be sure to respond to your instructor’s comments to you in this forum by Day 7.
Throughout the past several decades, the understanding of how we learn has been defined and redefined. Evaluate and comment on social learning theory and Bloom’s taxonomy. Analyze how each incorporate cognitivism and constructivism into their frameworks. Demonstrate an understanding of how at least two of these theories may have contributed to the focus on the more recent theories of emotional intelligence, metacognition, and motivation (i.e., self-determination). Please see the list below to determine which of the recent theories you will focus on for your initial post.
- Last name begins with A-I: Focus on emotional intelligence
Next, go to the Ashford University Library and research three scholarly articles pertaining to the historical relevance of your assigned theory. Address the following questions in your initial post:
- What historical trends do you notice in the literature about your assigned subject?
- Does there appear to be any event or series of events (such as research findings) that helped to promote this area of variable within learning psychology?
Evaluate your learning style and share an example of how a better understanding of this theory might be applied to explain your learning behavior(s) in a real-life situation at school, work, or home.
Guided Response: Read several of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your classmates by Day 5 (Saturday). Comment on at least one post by a classmate who was assigned a different focus area than you were and at least one post by a classmate who was assigned the same focus area you were. To encourage a full understanding of this content, offer information from your own research that might help explain and substantiate your classmates’ theoretical posts beyond what they have already used. Continue to monitor this discussion board through 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week. Comment on at least one of your classmates’ responses to your initial post. Be sure to respond to your instructor’s comments to you in this forum by Day 7. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.
