Describe an important place for you in the natural world

“Record your own reading process:  tell the story of your reading of the text”

–Writing to Read, Bard Institute for Writing & Thinking

From your notebook-journal and/or portfolio, if you have prepared and written for the readings, you will have notetaking and an inclass handwritten critical thinking paragraph, for one of the following syllabus readings:

Carson, “A Fable for Tomorrow” (284-286)

Ma, “My Grandmother’s Dumpling” (296-301)

Alvarez, “What is a Quinceanera?” (324-326)

In addition to the critical thinking paragraph, create two additional paragraphs, produce the paragraphs in typewritten format, and create an ESSAY that narrates your reading and shows an interrelationship of ideas.  Your essay should show the reading (author/title) in the introduction and have a thesis in your last sentence of the introduction; supporting paragraphs with topic sentences, an in-text citation, and a wrap up sentence; and a conclusion.  The in-text citation is a supporting quotation (noting page) from the specific reading in context to your choice; there are no outside sources.  In producing this writing, you may have to edit for complete and grammatically correct sentences, and make decisions on the arrangement of the writing.  All paragraphs should be indented; please proofread.  You are required to submit the evaluated handwritten paragraph, along with your printed, typewritten essay at the start of class on the due date.  The essay will not receive full credit without the original evaluated handwritten inclass paragraph.
