Is Socrates afraid to die?

Everyone:

I want to welcome you all once again to the course. I think this will be really interesting, and I hope you all enjoy it. That said, the first week is always a little intimidating, so I want you to know that I’m on hand to help in any way I can. Don’t be scared even if it seems tough; you are here to learn and that is what I want. And as long as you try you will be okay.

In the discussion board for Week 1 Assignment 2 you’ll find a sample written by one of my past students. I’ve posted it for you to look over.

When writing your own, pay attention for a few things in the reading (ten pages from Plato’s Phaedo).

  • What is said about the fear of death?
  • Life and death are opposites. So are hot and cold, night and day. Socrates finds this comforting.
  • Is Socrates afraid to die?
  • What does Socrates think will happen after he dies?
Try and give me a good answer to each of these questions and you’ll do okay.

As for format, here’s what I want:

2-3 pages doublespaced (after APA formatting but not counting title page, etc.), in Arial 12 font is perfect.

Also you don’t need to attach a document; just submit the text directly in the window.
