The Citizen Farmer
Consider some of the following questions for your discussion this week. You, individually, do not have to cover them all. Choose one and dig a little – research; offer new information that was not required reading.Culturally, who were the authors (Crèvecoeur and Jefferson)?Where did they fit into the history of America; what did they contribute?List passages where the authors link farming and citizenship.Consider the rhetoricPreview the documentView in a new window the authors use.Where did they use exaggeration or hyperbole? Where does it sound intentional?Make comparisons or contrasts to the readings from the European Chapter. As always, discuss how this literature contributes to our understanding of the farm and farmers.Your first original post should be submitted before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
