Opinion Editorial (Op-ED) Essay (Writing Project 1)

Your first project is an opinion-editorial piece that is appropriate for submission to a specific newspaper or magazine. You should first select a target publication, then select a current event being covered by that news outlet and respond to their coverage by asserting your opinion on the controversial issue. For length and style considerations, consult the ASU State Press, the Arizona Republic, and Phoenix New Times, and, most importantly, the specific media outlet you are writing to, and construct your assignment accordingly.Because your classmates will be writing for different target publications, there is no magic right format for this paper, so it may have more variation than most writing assignments. You may wish to continue working on the topic of this paper, so start out with strong analysis and research! This essay does not require outside sources, but, if you use any, you need to provide the sources for your information in genre-appropriate style. We will discuss what this means in depth. Most op-ed essays do not use citations but rather, they provide the reader sufficient information to find their sources in the text itself.topics:1- Does Technology Make Us More Alone?2- Are You Distracted by Technology?3- Do Apps Help You or Just Waste Your Time?4- Do You Spend Too Much Time on Smart Phones Playing ‘Stupid Games’?5- Has Facebook Lost Its Edge?6- Does Facebook Ever Make You Feel Bad?
