While searching the web for Forum topics, search for case studies that involve air pollution problems (acidic deposition, global environmental change, stratospheric-ozone depletion, or another air pollution issue) and mitigation measures. Write a brief summary of a case study that interests you. Remember that good communication skills (and in particular, writing) are necessary for any pollution manager to document what\’s been done, how, when, where, why, and with what results. Submit your case study summary in the Assignments Section of the classroom for credit.
I would like you to learn a remediation method so be sure to pick a case that is site specific, has a discussion on how the site was cleaned up, and has data showing the results. Think small with respect to site specific…..not global, continental, or national, but start at the industrial or manufacturing level, then work up to city, county or larger. To ensure you are on the right track, I suggest you view this example case study to model.
To help you get started, here is a web site that I found through the EPA/Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable (FRTR):
costperformance.org/search.cfm From this web page, you can search for case studies by Media/Matrix (e.g., sediments, sludge, soils, etc.), by Primary and Supplemental Technologies, by Site Name, or by Location. OR, you can click on \”Display All Case Studies\” at the bottom of the page. Many of these case studies are located on military installations, but not all. You can also search other sites, but you MUST include the web addresses and journal articles, etc. in your summary and cite them correctly for credit.
