\”I found it to be empowering, yet bittersweet. This is a topic that touches close to home and I found myself choking back tears at times, but I admired the woman whose story i heard. I wanted to be brave enough to stand up there and speak about the reality of rape and how it devastates one\’s life. There is a need to stress the importance of listening with empathy for survivors. It is far too important of an issue to be silenced because people become uncomfortable with the symptoms brought on by violence. In order for communities to be happier and healthier there is a need for unity. It takes at least 8 generations for trauma to receive intervention. This is even longer than those individuals with substance abuse issues. That usually receives intervention by the 4th. The representatives from different social service agencies, law enforcement, and members of the community came out to show the need for change. Schools will begin implementing more comprehensive sex education programs with the added component of teaching pre-adolescents and adolescents about healthy relationships, what this entails, and how to define abuse. In addition, Los Angeles made denim day an official day that will be held every year in honor of this very serious crime. This means even cops can wear jeans to work to show understanding for the victims. One of the points that law enforcement sees firsthand is the struggle and pain of a person who has been violated in such a horrible way. This calls for a grassroots approach in taking a different stance on violence.\”
