The book online is the 5th edition, but we are required to use the 7th edition textbook. You can still use the 5th edition because they have the same information they are just worded differently. For this assignment read chapter 16 in the textbook, but I also want you to go on my student account and read the power points on chapter 16. Since the textbook editions are different please make sure that you read chapter 16 power points online after you are done reading chapter 16 in the textbook.

There are a range of acceptable practices in working with Asian American clients. Attitudinal similarity between the counselor and client is more important than racial similarity in terms of building a working alliance. Counselors demonstrating multicultural competence are viewed as more competent in general. Taking into consideration the characteristics of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders,1. Thoroughly discuss how you can provide effective therapy to such a population. Use the following questions to guide your discussion:
1. The term “Asian Americans” encompasses more than 40 ethnic groups. What are the implications of counseling practice?
2. What stereotypes of Asian Americans are portrayed in the mass media? How do you think they developed?
3. What values do you hold that conflict with some of the traditional Asian American values discussed in the chapter?
4. How would you go about working with clients whose values may be incongruent with your own?
5. What are your reactions to Asian American parenting styles described in your text?
6. How would you deal with generational differences regarding children’s expectations of individuality and independence and parents’ expectations of obedience and sacrifice for the family?1. When you answer these questions please be specific, for example when you answer the first question write it like this “The way I can provide effective therapy to such a population is…”And do the same for the rest of the questions. Be specific enough where I can know that you are answering the questions and I can know exactly what questions you are answering.
