Canadian family in the Is romantic love an adequate foundation for a supposedly life-long relationship? Is the notion of a life-long relationship passé?
Chapter four provides a snapshot of recent patterns of partnering in Canada. It describes changes
in attitudes and behaviour regarding marriage and cohabitation, and provides an overview of
relevant theories. The trend to cohabitation over marriage as a way to begin conjugal relationships
has been rapid, and is most pronounced in Quebec. Expectations regarding love and intimacy
have changed along with increased individualism.
For this assignment, students are required to complete the required reading and the accompanying
