For national ID, How Much we should be willing to sacrifice our privacy

Privacy can be termed as the act of restricting private information from the public. In this case, sacrificing our privacy for the sake of our national IDs is the question at hand. Identity card (ID) is a legal document that is used to identify a person clarifying his or her citizenship in a country. In the past few years, biometric identity cards were invented so as to ensure security, though it’s clearly evident that sacrificing our privacy would be a part of the deal. Biometric identity cards are more equipped and have more identification and description of the holder. Their design is that of a credit card and is used to serve many purposes. The development of new biometric cards was aid in the aim of improving security. Unlike the other cards, biometric identity cards have fingerprints, facial patterns and eye scan. This has improved security, and as a result, reducing crime. For instance, credit cards are not misused since one has to provide the biometric identity card for identification..Over the past few years, the issue of sacrificing one’s privacy for the sake of security has raised controversial arguments that agree and disagree on the topic. According to Yagelski & Mille (2004), the new developed biometric cards are cheap and cuts costs compared to the other cards. The aim of developing these biometric identity cards is to sustain inflation at a favorable range. The inflation target can only be attained through the central bank periodical adjustment on to the interest rate target. The economy will adopt a contractionary monetary policy where the amount of money supplied in the economy is reduced making the interest rates soar leading to low-inflation rates. With the open market, operations the interest rate can be kept constant for a particular time frame. This interest rate target is reviewed by the policy committee on a quarterly or monthly basis. The changes made on the interest rate target occur in response to a number of market indicators in an effort to foretell economic patterns. This will ensure that the key objective of a definite inflation target is achieved. The public has come to accept the biometric cards despite loosening their privacy boundaries. Data privacy means restricting access of to certain information or data to only a few people. This is to ensure that the data is not compromised by being accessed by unauthorized persons. The law recognizes that data privacy and security has have penalties for those who hack or access private data. The current information age dictates that information is handled with utmost caution given that its implications could result to in consequences that could make or break a given society. The systems being developed every day also have some detrimental effects which are normally small but accumulate over time; these effects this could have extremely harmful effects in the long run, for instance, each automobile releases a very small amount of pollution, almost negligible, but when it is combined for thousands of automobiles in use today and over time, global warming cannot be controlled (Hunter, 2002).The development of systems in the modern world has a significant impact in on the lives of people. These impacts can both be intended and unintended and, some can be harmful while others useful. The invention and implementation of these biometric cards changes the lives of people by interfering with their realities and expectations. With the rights and freedom attached to every person in the world today, it would be easy to leave the developers with no blame as people are free to use the inventions or not to use. In this discussion, we look at various technological inventions and their ethical implication. We then analyze whether the designers need to worry about these implications. The world today is characterized by the importance that is information. As such, many countries are in a bid to get a competitive age advantage over their competitors or enemy has who have invested so much in spying. This has led to a lot of risk involved even as the government collects information and stores them it in their data base claiming that this is for the good of the nation. Today, with just a click of the button, information can be moved from one location to the other all over the world, in the face of the earth. It is this data base that has made many citizens feel insecure with their information to the government’s hands. Technological inventions have helped individuals and companies amplify their ability, strength, strategic advantage over other human beings. Strategic advantage has been gained by companies who have embraced technological inventions and thus have thus expanded rapidly. This has led to expansion and growth of such companies over those that still hold on the traditional means of productions (Bacard, 1995). Technological inventions have also earned many individuals considerable influence in the world. Countries that are technologically adept have a comparative advantage over the technological snails. Automation of offices and changeover from the manual systems is a testimony to the role of technology in productivity. In conclusion, it is clearly evident that loosening our privacy boundaries is worth the advantages that follow the sacrifice. In other words, economic convenience and security are enough reasons enough to take the risk of sacrificing our privacy. The new biometric identity card’s efficiency has eased many things. The issue concerning information and national security has made many people have hot stomachs as they ponder on the conflict between the government need for their private information and the protection of their fundamental rights. While the constitution is quite clear on the privacy of the citizens, this privacy is limited in the sense that the government is always monitoring the movements and activities of individuals in the name of the common good of the country.
