-WHAT IS IT?

What is career? What does this career look like (i.e. w
hat are the jobs duties; what does a typical day entail)?

What professional skills are required? What experience is required?
o
Who are the top organizations that offer the job?
o
How much is the average income?
o
How prevalent (common) is this career today? What is the present demand for
this career? Will there be a strong demand (job growth) for that career in the
future? What are the trends that could influence the demand in the future?

Is this career regional (specific to certain parts of the country/world)? Will there
be local jobs in that field, or will you have to relocate?
o
What chances of advancement/promotion are there in this career?
What is the typical career path of the job?

What amount of college/university work (degree type) is required?
What type of educational degree is most useful?
How long will this education take? (i.e. will you have to work
fulltime/PT/not at all and how many courses can you take in 1 semester)

money? (i.e. grants, loans, scholarships, parents, work)

Does this career require a license or other certification? What are the
requirements to obtain this license or certification? Does the license/certification
require continuing education or other ongoing training?

Are there internships available that will expose you to the job so you can try it
out?

has that job? If so, what advice can/will they share?

Based on your inventory results and knowledge of yourself, do you have what it
takes to be successful in that field? Whom will this career serve?

What is the personal value of this career? Will you find satisfaction in that career
and will it be fulfilling?

Will the job pay enough to maintain the kind of lifestyle you want? (marriage,
children, house, cars, vacations, retirement, savings)

IS THIS CAREER A GOOD FIT FOR YOU?
Based on this information, evaluate the career suggestion you chose. Explain your thoughts and evaluation. What aspects of this career appeal to you? Are there any aspects that are less appealing? How does this career fit with your strengths and weaknesses, personality, education plans, etc.?
Include specific results from your self-assessments.
Does the information you have found
support your choice or cause you to question it? Feel free to include any other
thoughts you may have on the subject.
The entire paper must be in APA format.
You must have a Works Cited page AND include citations for information within the body of the paper.
Citations MUST be included in APA format (if there are no citations, you have plagiarized and your grade will be adjusted accordingly).
You need to use at least three sources, including the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance, and at least one other academically acceptable resource.
Professional organizations can be good sources for up-to-date information.
The research paper will be submitted electronically through TurnItIn via Blackboard.
