Describe the importance of Curriculum-Based Measurement tools, how you would select them, and what purpose they serve.
Time to synthesize all the information! This week we learned that observations provide a general overview of basic considerations and good practice. Next, we read how objective and performance measures can be constructed by special education teachers. We also examined various CBM tools, and charting options. Finally, we identified steps and procedures for managing mandated tests, monitoring progress, and interpreting that data.
Considering what you have learned this week, write a four to six page paper explaining how you plan to manage data collection in your classroom related to a student’s individualized program across instructional settings. Address the following concepts:
• How can student academic, non-academic performance, and communicative behavior be sampled and identified?
• Why is frequent data collection valuable?
• Describe the importance of systematic observation for a student with significant disabilities (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability) and students with disabilities.
• Describe the importance of Curriculum-Based Measurement tools, how you would select them, and what purpose they serve.
• Identify different methods for setting goals and making decisions using progress monitoring data.
• Explain how the data can be used collectively for eligibility decisions, IEP development, and accountability.
• Explain how the data can be used to address the diverse needs cultural and linguistic of English language learners (ELLs). Explain how systematic and meaningful assessment contributes to the assurance FAPE for these students.
