Case Study – Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)
In order to discuss business processes, it is useful to have a documentation standard. The Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is such a standard – a global standard. As a business or systems analyst, you will either develop or review BPMN diagrams; therefore, learning this process diagramming standard is an important skill for Computer Information Systems and Business Technology Management majors. In addition, your textbook uses this technique throughout the book, so this exercise gives you a leg up on the BPMN learning curve.
This week, you will learn the basics of BPMN, create your own BPMN diagram, and review other classmates’ diagrams. You will use a web-based, easy-to-use, free diagramming tool called Lucidchart (www.lucidchart.com) to create your BPMN diagram.
- Review the following BPMN resources in the From the Expert section of Week 3:
- What is BPMN? Simple introduction for any audience
- BPMN Tutorial – 5 Minute Basics of BPMN
- LucidChart Full Tutorial 2014
- Review a few BPMN diagram examples
- Chapter 2 of your textbook – An Example Business Process section
