Assignment Overview
This assignment comprises an interview with a Human Resource Professional from
which you will develop a formal, APA formatted research paper that focuses on a
particular aspect of the changing role of Human Resource Management in the global
competitive environment.
Due Dates and Point Allocation
! Interview Questions: Due on Day 7 of Week 2 (50 pts)
! Completed paper submitted: Due on Day 7 of Week 6 (150 pts)
Research
! Read Chapters 1, 3 & 14 of the textbook – these chapters provide a good
overview of the changing role of human resource management in the global
competitive environment. [Hint: a look through the index might also be a good
point to other useful information].
! Locate a Human Resource Professional who is willing to be interviewed –
telephone or e-mail is sufficient for this assignment. Be sure to let your
prospective interviewee know that neither he or she or the organization for which
they work will be identified. Your are simply gathering insight to guide your
research for your final project. [Hint: the more polite and professional you are
when making contact, the more likely you are to be successful in your request for
assistance]
! From your initial reading, create a list of 8-10 interview questions. [Hint: don’t
forget to write a short thank you note – you never know, that person may handle
your application the next time you apply for a job!]
! After your interview is complete, from the answers you have received, identify
one issue that you would like to research in more depth or that your interviewee
finds particularly challenging [Hint: if in doubt, get confirmation of your topic from
your instructor].
! Conduct your research using the online databases accessible through the
Davenport University Online Library. [Hint: If you are unsure how to use the
databases ask for help by clicking on the tutorial next to the database or use the
“Ask a Librarian” link]. You can also use professional websites and magazines,
quality newspapers and journals. [Hint there are a number of very useful
websites listed under Supplemental Resources in the Weekly Materials]. You
must identify 7 -10 sources of information, excluding the textbook. Note:
Wikipedia may be a good starting point but it is NOT considered academically
credible because the information can be edited by laypeople who may not input
accurate and validated information.
Interview Questions
Based on your reading and research, create a list of 8 to 10 interview questions that will
provide you with the insight, and information to complete the written paper.

Using the Course Project Rubric effectively:
Rubrics spell out the criteria against which your assignment will be graded. It is a good
idea to review them before you begin your assignment as they help to clarify
expectations.
Self evaluation and reflection is a valuable way to reinforce your personal learning and
helps your instructor to better understand your needs. Therefore, you are encouraged to
use the rubric to complete a self-evaluation of your work.
To complete the rubric:
! First, download the rubric for the project from the Course Project folder to your
hard drive.
! Next, highlight in yellow the grade criteria boxes on the rubric that you think best
fits your assessment of your paper.
! Compare your own evaluation with that of your instructor when your project is
returned. This will help you to identify where you may need to improve in the
future and will enable you to ask focused questions if you need further
clarification from your instructor.
