Survey of Advertising Assignment #5 Option #2: Children&Food

For this assignment you will need to find TWO TELEVISION advertisements that are for food products or restaurants, and are targeted

specifically to children.
For each advertisement you should consider and write about the following:
• How healthy are the foods that are seen and that are being advertised?
• What tactics are used to promote the food/restaurant? Is the food talked about as being healthy? Tasty? Fun?
• If actual children are seen during the advertisements, how are they being portrayed? Are they active (playing or taking part in

some sort of physical activity) or are they seen as inactive individuals?
• Do the advertisements have some sort of cross-promotional appeal? Do they include references to other media such as magazines

or websites?
• Are any celebrities or fictional characters from TV or movies used to promote the foods? If so, how may this influence the

children who see the advertisements?
• Be sure to include in your discussion some of the findings from the Gantz et al report from this week’s readings.
While completing this assignment please keep in mind the guidelines set forth on the course syllabus pertaining to font type and size,

margins, and citations. In addition to your paper you must also submit the advertisements you analyze in some form. Please provide me

the URL’s where your advertisement can be viewed online.
This assignment should be, at minimum, two pages long (one page per advertisement). Respond to the questions above for your first

advertisement and then start again for your second advertisement. Do not intermix the responses for each advertisement. All assignments

are to be submitted via Sakai.
