Ethics case study analysis

The purpose of the report, and most academic assignments, is to use theories that are relevant to the topic that you have been allocated. In order to do this, it is important you undertake reasonably in-depth analyses of some of the key issues that are asked in the question – ethics, decision making and or stakeholders. For each of these topics/issues you must undertake further reading.

For example, in a case study where stakeholders are identified you must identify and analyse the stakeholder(s), their typology using legitimacy/urgency/power/proximity and discuss your conclusion. This type of analytical discussion requires the development, support, and critique, of the arguments relating to the position that you wish to present. The arguments should be logically developed and supported through the use of a broad range of texts and books that provide evidence for your analysis. A wide range of research provides a broad array of perspectives on the topic and will also be more likely to provide some critical analysis (ie relative alternative perspectives).

The approach must be the analysis of the case using theory as evidence to support your arguments and also to critique the arguments. This is why the quality of the material you use in your assignments is so important. It is important in the analysis that there is academic literature which is applied to support and build your arguments, and therefore it is recommended to use scholarly and academic material. (Grade A-B Reference sources only)

It is critical to avoid listing the details of the theory in favour of application to the case. Theory gives us the ability to analyse and rationalise complex situations, this is the purpose of a case study. For example, a list of theory features is of no value to the assessment task unless it is critically applied to the case. It is useful to avoid the use of diagrams that replicate what has been stated in the text. If you are going to use diagrams, it is important to use them as a tool to show connections between issues and illustrate the arguments that you are developing or points you are discussing. All diagrams must be supported by your argument in the text.
