Title: Ethnographic Study

1) Sociologists and Anthropologists are interested in framing broad hypothesis about human behavior. In order to do this, it is imperative to use examples from multiples cultures to ensure that their conclusions are not grounded in a single case. In this assignment, you will be taking on the role of an ethnologist, using multiple ethnographic accounts to study human behavior and culture. In this exercise, students will participate in cultural anthropology fieldwork. Utilizing participant observation, students will observe a specific activity within their personal culture.

The topics for observations will be of the student choosing. (A party, parade, emergency room, restaurant gathering, library, line waiting to enter a theater or any special event). You will write a 5-6 pages ethnographical account describing the nature of the observation. There you will identify how race, sex, gender, ideology, age, religion, political orientation and any other cultural parameters effect observations and behavior.
