Create a PERT CHART AKA A PROJECT CALENDAR -FIRST CREATE THE CHART, THEN A PRESENTATION EXPLAINING IT IN TEXT
Project Planning. The first case study is about a drug court. A synopsis of the case can be found at p.205-206. The assignment asks you to “develop a PERT or Project Calendar to account for the various
elements defined in the drug court program. Be sure that you adequately sequence events and
activities where appropriate and that your account for all the elements” (p.206).
1. Be sure you have read the drug court case study on pages 205-206. (I WILL ATTACH THE CASE AS THE ARTICLE TO READ)
2. Create an 10-month project calendar based on the drug court case study. There are two
major initiatives for this project. This should be 1-2 slides
max.
The first is developing and implementing the drug court program. Use relevant material
you’ve read for the class and apply concepts from the readings to this planning exercise. Start with
planning and move to implementation. What elements should be included / need to be created
based on what you’ve learned so far and the information provided in the case study? This
should be more detailed than the examples in the text.
The second major initiative is thinking through the elements of a program evaluation
(the evaluation does not have to be completed by end of project timeline). What are the major
tasks related to accomplishing this initiative?
The last task in the calendar should be a report to the Board of Supervisors a month before the elections
(you do not need to detail out steps to creating the report, just list this as the final task in the
timeline). You are welcome but not required to use outside sources as needed.
Here are three key events to include in timeline: Form the task force (month 1), Drug court is
operational (i.e. takes first participants, month 8), Report to the Board of Supervisors (month
10).
3. Tools. There is a free project calendar template/add-on for Power Point that you can
download here: https://www.officetimeline.com/ It allows you to create a project calendar in
Power Point. People have used excel for years to create project calendars and you may do that
as well. As with most of our work, you may use the tool of your choice to accomplish the task.
Importantly though, please see point # 4 below before you go too far with the tool of your
choice.
4. Audio narration. Once you have created the project calendar use the audio function in power
point to record a brief walk-through of your project calendar. Take on the role of the clerk who
is serving as the coordinator role (this is in the case description) and you are in a meeting with
the Judge where you layout the project calendar. If you use a tool other than power point, my
first suggestion is to insert your calendar into power point and use the audio function. If you
use a different tool, you can use Voocaroo to create an audio file. While a meeting would have
back/forth and questions, let’s say the Judge has asked you to present the calendar in its
entirety first and then she will ask questions or for more information. Make sure you cover
each element of the calendar and explain why the task/component is necessary. Your
presentation should not be longer than 10 minutes. (Writer, if you donít want to do an audio narration, do it in text, I will put it in audio form)
