Who is your hero and why?
Sometime people face difficulties and need motivation to resolve a situation, to see a person who doesn’t feel sorry about himself and enjoyas his life. Life of Stephen Hawking guides me to do my best to try harder and become the biggest. Stephen Hawking is my hero due to some reasons. He is great physicist, his contribution to the development and popularization of science is quite significant. A lot of people know that Hawking suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, because of which he can communicate only via computer program.
Stephen Hawking is known for his works regarding black holes and science books. It should be noted that according to Hawking, he didn’t devoted much time to his studies and stated that he focused on school affairs nearly an hour a day. Nevertheless, in 1962, he graduated with honors in natural science and went on to attend Trinity Hall at Cambridge University for a PhD in cosmology. On the other hand, few people know about it, because in spite of his illness, he was able to gain recognition and become popular. I greatly respect and admire this person because he provided a great work in physics and cosmology and made science accessible to everyone despite his debilitating illness (Stephen Hawking, Brief Biography).
According to T. Barron hero is a person who has faced a challenge such as going blind and triumphed (Barron, T., p. 53). Stephen is a hero because he didn’t give up after and keeps living normal life as it is possible. Our problems are not bigger than Hawking’s problems. Hawking’s great career was accompanied by his worsening physical state. Stephen was diagnosed with ALS that is a form of Motor Neurone Disease when he was 21 years old and in the 1970s one of Hawking’s graduate students helped him to manage care and work. He needed assistance in everything but feeding and getting out of bed. Unfortunately, his speech slurred and only some people could understand him and in 1985 he already lost his voice. A California computer programmer developed a speaking program that allowed Hawking to select words on a computer screen that allowed him to communicate with people. I admire this personality because Hawking reminded about himself in the summer of 2015 and stated he works with the discovery of extraterrestrial life (Stephen Hawking). Nevertheless, he continues to combine family life (he has three children and three grandchildren) and his work, researches, travels and public lectures.
Finally, Stephen Hawking is a legendary person, the best example of personality because the story of his life is a good motivation for those who doesn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. He has been confined to a wheel chair since 21 years old, he is not able to speak, his body organs have also stopped working and only ears and little left hand fingers are active. Stephen Hawking is just a name for some people. For some people he is disabled man who “did something for science” and tells strange things in documentary films about science. For me he is a man with a capital letter, a living legend not only from the point of view of science. I mean that the fact that he continues to live and work for the good of humanity, in spite of his illness – is a real heroism.
